If the thalamus is the receptionist, the hypothalamus is the conductor: small, powerful, and slightly temperamental. It sits just beneath the thalamus, a structure no larger than an almond, yet it governs hunger, thirst, temperature, sleep, hormones, libido, stress, and the delicate balance between chaos and control. It is the part of the brain that decides whether you are calm or cranky, rested or restless, in love or simply in need of a snack. The cortex may write poetry, but the hypothalamus decides whether you have the energy to read it.
I met her on a Tuesday afternoon, accompanied by three relatives, two opinions, and one very large Stanley tumbler. She was in her early thirties, sharply dressed, visibly tired, and perpetually thirsty.
“How much water do you drink?” I asked. She thought for a moment. “Enough to make my family suspicious.” Her mother leaned forward. “Doctor, she drinks water all the time. And still says she’s thirsty. This is not normal thirst. This is ambition.” Her husband added helpfully, “She also hasn’t slept properly in months. And she eats at odd hours. Sometimes not at all, sometimes everything.” “And you feel tired?” I asked. “Exhausted,” she said. “But wired. Like my body forgot how to switch off.”
This is the sort of description that makes a neurosurgeon stop being casual. The endocrinologist they had gone to had picked up some discrepancies in her sodium levels and had ordered an MRI of the brain. The scan revealed a lesion deep in the centre of the brain, pressing against the hypothalamus. A small tumour, but in a location where size is a misleading metric. Around the hypothalamus, a few millimetres can feel like a PIN code change.
“I feel like my settings have been changed,” she said quietly. “That’s actually quite accurate,” I replied. We discussed surgery. Not dramatic, but delicate. The goal was to remove the tumour without offending the hypothalamus, which is known to revolt even to a glance, forget a touch.
Operating in this region feels like navigating a crowded control room where every switch matters. One wrong move, and you do not just affect structure, you alter rhythm. Temperature, appetite, sleep, emotion—everything is interconnected. In the theatre, the room carried a different kind of silence. Focused. Respectful. Navigation guided us toward the lesion. The tumour was carefully dissected away from surrounding structures, teased off the hypothalamus rather than pulled.
You do not rush here. You negotiate. When the tumour finally came free, there was relief. Not the triumphant kind. The cautious kind. The kind that waits for physiology to respond.
Postoperatively, she was stable but unpredictable. Her fluid balance fluctuated. Her sleep came in fragments. Her hormones took time to remember their instructions. The hypothalamus, as expected, was recalibrating.
One morning during rounds, she looked at me and said, “Doctor, I slept for six hours.”
There was a pause. “That’s excellent,” I said. “And I woke up not angry,” she added.
Her mother looked at me triumphantly. “Operation successful.”
Recovery was gradual but steady. Her thirst normalized. Her sleep returned. Meals regained rhythm. Life, in its quiet way, resumed. At her follow-up visit, she walked in without the oversized water bottle. “I think my body is listening again,” she said. “That’s always a good sign,” I replied. She smiled. “Although,” she added thoughtfully, “I still open the fridge for no reason.” I nodded. “That,” I said, “is not the hypothalamus. That’s muscle memory.”
There is something deeply humbling about the hypothalamus. It reminds us that control is often an illusion. That beneath our carefully planned lives lies a small cluster of neurons deciding when we are hungry, tired, emotional, or overwhelmed. We like to believe we are in charge. The hypothalamus politely disagrees. Because at the end of the day, you are not entirely your thoughts, your emotions or even your decisions. You are, to a surprising extent, your settings. And sometimes, all it takes is a few millimetres in the wrong place for your body to hit ‘reset’ without asking for your permission.

This article seems to highlight the Strait of Hormuz of the human body… small, strategic, and quietly controlling everything that keeps us functioning. Always love the way you draw our attention to and describe the littlest parts of our brain.
Good connection. Understandable- effect of strain o a small but vital part of the whole.
I want to thank a very kind and powerful psychic who brought back my ex wife who left me she told me she wants to be alone and left me and the kids I was devastated everyday i keep thinking how i would live without her one day i was online when I found Priest Ade website then i contacted him, He told me not to worry she will be back in 24hours after he cast his love spell i had some doubt though but i just did all he instructed and had a little faith, To my greatest surprise the next day she was back to me and the family she told me she was sad because she couldn’t get pregnant since we have been trying but Priest Ade also solved that now she is 3 weeks pregnant I’m so excited i highly recommend him he is powerful and can help you too with different problems email him now at ancientspiritspellcast@gmail. com

FROM HOTEL SHEETS TO A $639,000,000 MILLION LOTTERY WINNER, THE WEDNESDAY THAT CHANGED MY LIFE:
I worked as a hotel cleaner, struggling to survive and provide for my family. The pay was often not enough for our bills, and sometimes I felt like giving up, but my sister kept encouraging me. One Wednesday at about 2:30pm, a guest came to the hotel celebrating a huge Powerball win. He shared his testimony about how Lord Bubuza, a spell caster, had helped him win by revealing the lottery numbers he played after casting a lottery spell. His story gave me hope, so I contacted Lord Bubuza on WhatsApp: +1 (365) 808 5313 for help. I provided the requirements to cast the lottery spell and he gave me the Powerball winning numbers. I bought a $2 ticket and played. When I checked my ticket, I could hardly believe my eyes. I had won $639,000,000. After years of suffering, I broke down in tears. I am deeply grateful to Lord Bubuza. My story reminds me that even after years of hardship, life can change unexpectedly. Never give up hope, lord Bubuza is a God on Earth and can help you too. I’m incredibly grateful to Dr. Benjamin for the guidance and encouragement he gave me during my lottery journey. I reached out to him after hearing about his work, explained my hopes of winning the Mega Millions jackpot, and decided to give it a try. He shared a set of numbers with me and encouraged me to remain positive and hopeful. I purchased my ticket using those numbers, and I was completely shocked when they matched the winning numbers. I won the Mega Millions jackpot of $50 million! It was an unforgettable moment that changed my life. I’ll always appreciate Dr. Benjamin’s support. Dear Dr Mazda,
It feels like we are learning step by step after reading your articles.
Analogy to Strait of Hormuz quite apt.
Looking forward to the next week’s article
Hi Doc,
Beautifully penned article.
I think my Hypothalamus needs to be controlled – but- as you’ve said, it ‘politely disagrees’
Wonderfully worded case.
Thank you!

I’m always amazed when I hear these stories of care by an expert surgeon who listens and takes the time to help improve the quality of life for his patient. For Mazda this is not just a surgery it’s a collection he makes with everyone he knows.
Just shows you that small things matters so much . Bravo Mazda
Great 👍
A few days back I remembered you doctor, while helping my daughter in her college project. I had do some soldering work on a small mother board to connect wires. Although the points were 5 mm away from each other, every time one soldered tin melted to touch the other one or the connected wire gets detached and finally after an hour’s task, I told her to take it back to the college lab. There I stood in your shoes and thought that how a surgeon can decide to stop halfway, but to complete the task. You neurosurgeons are super humans…

You continue to baffle me . It’s magical.
Superb, Wow written.
While reading this one my mind slowly sifted towards thinking how skilled one should be to have operated with such precision.
You are one of the best Dr. Turel
One more Excellent Reading on Hypothalamus,
Very informative for people not from medical background,
Keep it up Dr Mazda
Marvelous Dr. Mazda! As always your articles make us stop to think and this one also makes me uncomfortable. I wish neuroscience researchers would hurry up and find the neurochemicals needed for us to “control” the conductor. All those hours spent meditating, reading, brisk walking, … but Man proposes, Hypothalamus disposes. That wee bit of almond is the lord and master.
Lovely 🥰

I want to stand before you all today to give thanks to Lord Gius for a life-changing miracle. For a long time, my family and I were going through severe financial hardships. We were struggling to pay bills, dealing with mounting debts, and there were days when the weight of our financial future felt completely overwhelming. Despite the stress, I kept praying, holding onto faith, and trusting that a breakthrough would come.A few weeks ago, I made a spontaneous decision to try a lottery spell caster, I did not think much of it at the time, but I whispered a quiet prayer, asking for relief from our burdens. Lord Gius, told me what would be required which i did, then he gave me numbers to play and i did according to his intructionns, When the results were announced, I checked the numbers, and to my absolute shock, they matched. I had won the lottery. In that exact moment, a wave of overwhelming relief and gratitude washed over me. I burst into tears, knowing that our financial struggles were instantly over. This blessing has allowed us to clear all our debts, secure a home, and establish a foundation for our family’s future.I am sharing this testimony not to boast about wealth, but to testify to how quickly circumstances can change. I am profoundly grateful for this unearned blessing, and I pray for the wisdom to manage these resources properly, to be a blessing to others, and to remain grounded. Thank you, Lord Gius, for this incredible miracle.

AI has caused me more problems than it has solved. I was connected to a cryptocurrency trader through AI and lost my hard-earned money to a scam. If it weren’t for the assistance of Lord Meduza, whom my sister-in-law recommended to me, I wouldn’t have been able to win the $435 MILLION Mega Millions Lottery. My life could have taken a drastic turn due to the overwhelming bills I faced after being cheated by the crypto traders. Lord Meduza utilized his extraordinary spell powers to determine the perfect six numbers I needed to win the Mega Millions Lottery, and I followed his instructions to play those numbers. I am incredibly thankful for the support, love, and kindness he has shown, which is beyond measure. I was able to reclaim my lost Bitcoin assets worth of $480,99 which i had lost to the sc$m company known as Capitalix fx a sc%$m company pretending to be an investment platform which alot of people including myself have lost their funds to, sadly not all would be fortunate enough to retrieve back their funds like I did but if you’re reading this today then you’re already a step closer towards regaining your lost digital assets, Cybertechie successfully retrieved back my funds in less than 48hours after I sought for their help to get back my funds. In March 2019, I was only 24 years old when my life changed in a way I never imagined. My Name is Manuel Franco, I became the winner of the incredible $768.4 million Powerball jackpot. Before that happened, I had received spiritual numbers from Chief Ade. At first I wasn’t sure what to think, but something inside me told me to trust the numbers. I followed the guidance, bought my ticket, and waited. When the winning numbers were announced, I checked my ticket again and again. I was completely shocked, I couldn’t believe that the numbers on my ticket matched the winning numbers, that moment changed everything for me. I went from being an ordinary 24-years old to becoming a multimillion dollar lottery winner overnight. I will never forget the role Chief Ade’s spiritual numbers played in my story. To this day, I still look back and ask myself how everything came together at exactly the right moment. Sometimes, life can surprise you in ways you never thought possible.
